Water Treadmill

Our friendly facility offers hydrotherapy for both recreational swimming and medical treatment, using pools and water treadmills as non-weight-bearing exercise options.

About the water treadmill

Rehabilitation through a heated hydrotherapy pool and canine underwater treadmill. Tailored treatment plans created in collaboration with your vet.

  • Water treadmill access
  • Pool-based exercise programmes

What to expect

How it works: works collaboratively with veterinarians, physiotherapists, and pet insurance providers. Individualised care plans created for each dog.

Session recording: we have a state of the art system that records each dog’s session on the water treadmill. It helps our qualified team review progress and advise your vet of how the patient is doing.

Healthy and sporting dogs can use it too: see dog fitness and conditioning.

Behind the scenes

A day with Clara

Spend the day with Clara with the dogs in the underwater treadmill and in the pool!

Clara is our medically trained hydrotherapist, qualified to Level 4 and licensed. In this video she takes you through a day at work, from fun swims in the pool to sessions on the underwater treadmill.

The water treadmill is a safe, effective way to improve your dog’s overall fitness, or to aid recovery before and after surgery. The dogs you see are all on their own individual hydrotherapy journeys, with treatment and support for conditions including:

  • Spinal and neurological conditions
  • Orthopaedic cases
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Luxating patellas
  • Chronic arthritis
  • Joint stiffness and reduced mobility
  • Post-operative rehabilitation
  • Weight management

Every session is tailored to your dog’s needs and comfort level, using controlled, low-impact exercise that builds strength and stamina and supports gentle rehabilitation. We are seeing some fantastic improvements in movement, mobility and confidence.

If your dog has recently had surgery, is struggling with their movement, or just is not getting around as comfortably as they used to, please get in touch to arrange a medical hydrotherapy assessment. Email durham@mightymutthouse.com or call 0191 622 6632.
